Permanently sited in the rolling landscape of Kentucky, Gentle Collapsing I is a modern ruin constructed in the convention of a picturesque folly. The steel sculpture is based on the iconic, post-war model of a single-family dwelling that is exemplified throughout Californian modernism and John Entensa’s Case Study Program. The sculpture’s state of entropy, its eventual degradation, has been halted and frozen through the complete galvanisation process. Similarly, the pool is empty of water and partially filled in. Stasis is held in a precarious state of equilibrium. Nature is being encouraged to do what it can to steadily reclaim the structure.
